between the movies Holes and Return of the King, 2003 was a great year in movies where heartwarming important scenes revolved around someone being carried up to the mountain when they can’t make it themselves

Independent bookstores, and booksellers, get a lifeline just when they need it most.

typhlonectes:

Independent bookstores around the country have a particularly clever lifeline, one perfectly suited to the unprecedented moment we find ourselves in. The strange part? It came into being just weeks before the World Health Organization declared the coronavirus outbreak a pandemic, and before the bookstores started closing up shop wondering if they’d reopen at all.

The lifeline in question is called Bookshop

In simple terms, it’s a super clean, user-friendly online bookstore whose raison d’être is supporting independent bookstores — not simply with exposure or resources (though that’s certainly a factor), but with cold hard cash…

Joy Wang (Everything Everywhere All At Once) vs. Jadzia Dax (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine)

Joy Wang submission propaganda: “She’s everything”

Jadzia Dax submission propaganda: “what if i were a worm and you were a worm and we were symbiotic organisms to humanoid bodies. and we were m/f married but then we both died and became women and we realized we love each other even more as lesbians than as a straight couple and had one of the first lesbian kisses on tv then had to never see each other again because falling in love with someone from a past life is taboo and would doom you to exile causing the end of the symbiotes life. this is an episode of hit 80s scifi comedy star trek”

this is an evil choice but Dax on principle :((

Hey! People breathing in smoke right now! I’m a Californian, we (sadly) do this on the regular. Here are some tips:

1. run your air conditioner to purify the air inside

2. close windows and limit time outside as much as possible

3. DO NOT EXERCISE OUTSIDE

4. Wear an N95 outside

5. If you use an inhaler or take medication for asthma or any breathing condition, make sure you have enough. might be a good time to call in a refill.

6. REMEMBER YOUR ANIMALS! If you can, bring pets in the house so they’re not breathing that toxic air.

people are posting about it way less now but theres some terrible smoke in the great lakes/midwest region rn (june 28)

I know I’ve been over this but man HRT is good stuff. I wanna shake the hand of whoever invented it. It’s a crime that I don’t know who that is actually. They’re more important than Einstein

id also been really curious about the history of hrt so i had some tabs open:

The first hrt treatments were mostly estrogen extracted during pregnancies to be used for menopause symptoms, but the first usage of those medicines for trans women is credited to the world’s first Trans Clinic, opened in pre-WW2 Germany by Magnus Hirschfield, a gay jewish man.

Oh he looks delightful

Thank you grandpa

The comparasion to Einstein was actually made at the time too! He was commonly refered to as “the Einstein of sex”, to which he supposedly once replied that he would rather Einstein be called “the Hirschfeld of physics” lmao

Oh my god

I love scifi horror techno babble it’s better than any other kind of techno babble out there. “hey why is the core unit of the ship called a sanity engine?” don’t worry about it. It’s fine! Just keep your blackout helmet on during jumps and everything will be fine
